Roger Wood Foods has been up and running in Savannah, Georgia since 1936. Our family of employees produces over a half million pounds a week of smoked sausage and other smoked meats.
Roger Wood products are distributed throughout eight states- Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland- and we are continuing to expand.
We now have a state of the art facility with over 100,000 square feet under continuous USDA inspection. Roger Wood Foods is an SQF Level 2000 certified company. We were the first Southeastern family-owned sausage processor to become SQF Certified.
It all started with a young man named Roger Wood…
Roger Wood returned home to Savannah, GA from military service during World War I in 1920. He joined the Cudahy Packing Company and quickly worked his way up to local manager of the Savannah branch.
Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Wood along with others decided to form their own meat packing company in 1936 and called it Wood-Robbins Sausage.
World War II interrupted Roger Wood’s first endeavor temporarily. After the war, Wood restarted the company’s operations as sole owner and named it Roger Wood Packing Company.
Shortly following, his son-in-law, Joseph M. Solana Jr., joined him in the business and began to build its progressing legacy in the Southeast.
In the late 70’s Solana’s sons came into the family business and still operate the company in Savannah, Georgia.[See our Pinterest board, We Have a History, for more Roger Wood photos.]
