| Roger Wood |
After military service during World War I, Roger Wood
returned to Savannah, GA in 1920, and joined Cudahy Packing Company,
quickly working his way up to local manager of the Savannah branch.
Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Wood along with others formed
their own meat packing company in 1936. Ten years later after W.W.II
and a temporary closing, Wood restarted the company’s operations
as sole owner and named it Roger Wood Packing Company. Shortly following
W.W.II, his son in law, Joseph M. Solana Jr. joined him in the business
and began to build upon this emerging legacy. By the early 70’s the
company had become a recognized name in the state of Georgia, and
demand for the product from neighboring states was constantly building
from its reputation.

Following the entry into the business by Solana’s
sons, the company became federally inspected and branched out into
the surrounding states of the Carolina’s, Florida, Alabama, and Virginia.
The thanks from our newly found customers was loud and long, as they
were now able to purchase what had only previously been a flavor
in their mind.
Today, we have expanded our size to a state of the art facility with
over 100,000 square feet under continuous USDA inspection.
Our family of employees carefully produces over a half million pounds
a week of smoked sausage and other smoked meat and distributes these
fine products across 6 states in the Southeast.
The
company continues to build upon the quality and reputation laid by
Roger and Joe through innovative marketing, packaging, and sales
techniques. The company constantly invests in its people, equipment,
and methods to assure a level above our customers' expectations.
Our mission is straightforward; discover our customers' needs and
deliver.
Our focus is you – the customer, your specific needs and
desire to find products that help satisfy your quest for convenience,
flavor, and value.
So we ask you to give us an opportunity to prove
our worth. We promise that the flavor you remember will be… excellent!
Roger Wood Foods, Inc. has been working diligently to reduce our
environmental impact in the community. We have committed ourselves
to three main goals:
| 1. |
Using recyclable packaging materials
where possible. This eliminates waste in our plant.
It also allows the customers to become more environmentally
aware. |
| 2. |
Reducing water usage. Food processors have
a history of using large amounts of water during production.
Our goal is to continually reduce and/or recycle where possible
by reusing process water. |
| 3. |
Energy efficiency. We are continually looking
for alternative methods in cooking and refrigeration practices
that will reuse latent energy. |
